Tax Credits repayments

Even although I updated HMRC online twice about changes to working and income , they didn’t seem to record these changes and we have been overpaid by a four figure sum.

(I won’t argue the fact we’ve been overpaid it’s just very frustrating that it has come to this - last time I called they seemed to know the employer but not the pay. :( )

do HMRC allow installments of repayments? This is not the kind of money we have to hand in full but can repay a good amount enough to clear it within 12-16 months.

You'll need to ring (not online) tax credits and sort it out. Always ring them.

Yes, I've had overpayments in the past and paying it back monthly at the moment, they're very flexible

@gamerchick @EyeC Ok this is is all very assuring. I never would use the online system again. I’m shocked it could happen but I accept I should have realised the amount of tax credits should have changed too.

Regardless, if the numbers are right they are right, and I will pay back. I only know of the overpayment from an update letter, I haven’t had any repayment requests , but I am sure I read somewhere they get in touch sometime around June to collect this. Can I start to repay this sooner? And how is it normally repaid?
