Travel Insurance Claim - Help!

I paid for a holiday for my adult DD (doesn't live with me); we each have our own travel insurance. We had to cancel the holiday due to my illness and my insurance are paying half of my claim as the insurance was only in my name. Fair enough, but my daughter is being told she cannot claim as she wasn't out of pocket. I can't get my head round it, is this normal practice, and should I have added her to my travel insurance for this trip so that I could have been reiumbursed in full?

In their eyes she isn't out of pocket as you paid. Also she could have gone by herself I suppose.

Maybe she should have been on a combined insurance with you in order to be covered for that holiday.

Her policy allows for cancellation due to illness of a travelling companion, but yeah I guess she could have gone
