house contents insurance claim help please

need to make a clain on our contents insurance i know i will have to pay a £50 excess thingy which is fine - do i pay it when i report the damage or is it taken in my next monthly payment ???

Normally they ask for a cheque at a much later date when it is all processed, IME

Hi Fairydust I work in insurance & normally what happens is that the excess is taken off the money or vouchers that they send you.

They will just take it away from the amount they agree as settlemnent.
(They can't deduct it from your premium as the premium forms the contract).
You will just be paid the balance amount.

cat64 - that is correct you dont pay them the excess at all. But they do ring you to confirm if that is ok.
