Overpaid Universal Credit - had no contact?

A good few months ago I was over paid UC as my boss didn't declare my earnings. I called HMRC up the same day and they said not to worry and they would just sort it out and deduct. I haven't had any UC payments for a while now as I got promoted and earn too much to receive it so theres been nothing to deduct from. I've heard nothing else about paying the overpayment back and I'm not sure what to do now?

Call them?

The UC finance department are a nightmare to get hold of. I had deductions made because of an overpayment of tax credits, the tax credit people said they hadn't over paid me so I had no idea what was going on. My work coach told me only the finance dept. could sort it out and they never answered the phone! I would sit on hold for hours until it just cut out. In the end I just had to pay it.

If I were you I'd put a note on your journal and just see what happens. At least you can prove you told them.

I put it in my journal when it happened and they said they would put a letter about it in my journal too but they never did. I've also just checked my payment history and the payment for that over payment now says £0.00 instead of the amount I was paid. I have tried calling them many times and can't get an answer.

Leave them to it. Take some screen shots and wait 'til they come to you.

Send a journal message under payments on your home page, this will go straight to your case manager.

Have you closed your claim?

User920202 · 11/03/2023 17:16

No I haven't. An adviser said not to incase of a change in circumstances.

Did you resolve this?

I've had something similar happen and been waiting 8 months so far. When I ring UC or debt they say they can't see any overpayment!

It was resolved. I eventually got a letter from UC saying I owed almost £1500 due to 2 over payments (I think over a year after I was overpaid). Luckily I kept the overpayments separate and didn't spend it. I paid it back in the full amount over the phone.
