Worried about money this month

Hi,

feeling stressed about our money this month. We’ve had to pay a big unexpected bill ands it’s really hit our spare cash. It’s 8th march today so there’s 20 days until
we are paid. All of bills and debt payments have been made and we have £729 to last until payday. Out of this we need to buy food and fuel. I have a real fear of running out of money!!

OP posts:
Idontgiveagriffindamn · 08/03/2023 22:24

That’s £36 per day - plenty of Monday for food and fuel.
But plan your meals and don’t buy any extras. Instead of buying lunches out (if you do) take your lunch. Cut back on the luxuries.
A lot of people will have no where near this amount for food / fuel in a normal month and still manage to save.

Blindedbythenighttimelights · 08/03/2023 22:25

That’s £243 a week for food and fuel.

BiscuitBandit32 · 08/03/2023 22:26

That's loads? That's £243 a week.. We're a family of 6 and we have less than that to live off on a good month. Why would you run out? Just set a weekly budget for food and.spending and stick to it. You've got plenty.

carriedout · 08/03/2023 22:26

I am sorry you are worried but unless you have exceptionally high fuel bills - how high are they? - that should be enough to last the rest of the month.

I would try to spend as little as possible for the next week to save more for the rest of the month.

Quitelikeit · 08/03/2023 22:27

Spread it out and give yourself £234 a week. It’s plenty enough

not sure of your fuel costs though if in crisis you could try a food bank or sell off some old clothes etc

Coffeellama · 08/03/2023 22:29

It’s plenty, might be less than you are used to but it’s not exactly broke is it. Meal plan and pay attention to your spending, you will be ok.

Okunevo · 08/03/2023 22:33

That's loads of money! How many people and how much fuel do you use?

greenspaces4peace · 08/03/2023 22:36

daily rather than weekly. anything you don't spend that day pop into a rainy day fund/savings.
fuel up for $35 ONLY
food shop $35 only.

gamerchick · 08/03/2023 22:39

Not nice to take the piss like OP.

Nsky62 · 08/03/2023 22:41

Depends what you are used to, if only for two things it should be enough

butterfliedtwo · 08/03/2023 22:42

The only way you'll run out is if you don't budget. It's a lot of money tbh.

GrazingSheep · 08/03/2023 22:42

The op is taking the piss.
I’ve reported

Why am I taking the piss???

So OP, how would YOU manage if your sole income was state pension of £740.60 every 4 weeks, and all your bills, house, car, food, everything had to come out of that?

TheGirlWhoLived · 08/03/2023 22:56

Well you are sort of taking the piss @Magzchester because there are people (like me) that were paid £1150 today and have rent due of £825. Universal credits due 22nd but try making that £325 stretch two weeks with a 2, 8 and 12 year old with two school trips due.

look at it this way, if you ARE genuine then take heart in the fact that I’d sell a kidney to ‘only’ be left with £750 after bills

BiscuitBandit32 · 08/03/2023 22:57

Magzchester · 08/03/2023 22:47

Why am I taking the piss???

Your post comes off very entitled, privileged and out of touch. You can't survive 20 days on £729?! Thats a lot of money no matter how you slice it. Not sure what you're expecting people to say?

BrutusMcDogface · 08/03/2023 22:57

Wtf. That’s loads of money to last 20 days, ffs. I think you’ll be ok.

TheHouseNextDoor · 08/03/2023 22:58

Unless you are feeding 10 children and driving 500 miles a day.. you'll be fine.

ArmchairAnarchist2 · 08/03/2023 23:02

Wow! Are you aware of how much many others have for food and fuel each month? Unless there's a huge drip feed coming that you drive 300miles a day there is no need to be concerned. If you normally spend more than that, what the hell are you buying?

champagneplanet · 08/03/2023 23:06

As always with threads like this concept is everything.

How many mouths are you feeding and how many meals per day? Do you have to buy lunches? How many cars are you putting fuel in and how many miles are you driving per day?

I'm not sure what you're asking, do you want budgeting advice? Or are you just in a flap?

seratoninmoonbeams · 08/03/2023 23:06

🤣🤣

carriedout · 08/03/2023 23:07

Magzchester · 08/03/2023 22:47

Why am I taking the piss???

Because you have a lot of money left.

I was polite but your question does seem very strange.

greenspaces4peace · 08/03/2023 23:07

what the hell, because she's not impoverished she's not allowed to vent and ask for suggestions?
the race to the bottom on this site is nauseating.
different people have different budgets and are accustomed to different incomes and they are equally able to moan about their struggles.

LondonQueen · 08/03/2023 23:08

£243 a week after bills and you're worried you're going to run outConfused

But what is she worried ABOUT? She has plenty of money.

What suggestions are needed?
