Anyone know how much tax credits my mum should be getting?

My mum is insisting that she should be getting more child tax credits than she currently is but everytime she rings up, they check and say she's getting what she's entitled to.

Her and her husband are in their 50's, he earns around £16k a year but with over time etc he often comes home with over £400 a week. They have 1 child (who is 14).

Anyway they get £10 a week child tax credit but everyone else I know gets £35 per child, even people that earn more than them.

So can anyone shed any light?

last year we had an income of 18K and had child tax credit of £50 per month. HTH

If the 16k is without overtime then they will use his overall earnings to calculate the amount. £10 a week is basic tax credits so he must be over the threashold for anything else

Tax credits are based on your household income and the number of children you have and are quite individual. If your mum's husband is taking home over £400 a week his annual salary is over £28K. On that level of income with only 1 child then £10 a week is right.
