Do I need to tell employer my new bank details when switching current account or does it happen automatically?

Direct debits tend to be switched but not standing orders or payments in. You should tell them.

If you use the current account switching service they should switch all incoming and outgoing payments except for recurring payments that use your card number rather than your bank account details e.g. subscription services.

There's no harm in you also giving your new bank details to your employer though

I switched before Christmas and everything in and out including pension happened automatically (using switching service). Only recurring card payments aren't covered.

It depends. I've done it a few times and sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

You don't have to worry because all payments sent to your old account will be redirected to your new one for at least three years.

Easiest thing to do might be to wait a few weeks then check the details your employer has for you (I can do this by logging in to the online staff portal).
