Life Insurance Policy - assignation on separation

Hello I wonder if any lawyers / financial advisors woudl be able to advise me on this as I cannot afford to see a solicitor.

My Ex and I have split up. I set up a life insurance policy on a joint life first death basis for the financial protection of our son.

I am currently paying the premium every month as I am keen to have some form of finanical help should Ex die.

However if I were to die under the policy he would get the money and I do not want this as a) he would fritter it away - it woudl not be used for DS and b) I am paying the premiums.

The Life Assurance co sent me deeds of assignation and I think I may be able to get Ex to agree to sign them.

I want to keep the policy with our two lives assured but for the money to come to me on either of our deaths, if I die first I would put it into trust for DS and drip feed it to Ex so that it is used properly.

If we complete the deed of assignemt on separetion or divorce will that mean that Ex will no longer get the money if I die?

Any advice greatly appreciated
