So my teen son rides a 125cc scooter. He skidded on black ice and broke a couple bones. He managed to get the bike off the road to a unsecured private car park and got himself to hospital. The bike was stolen the next day according to the people associated with the property. As he was in pain and shock he took the key but did not secure the lock in any other way (chain etc) which is a requirement of the policy. He did report it to the police and checked if there was cctv (there is not).
My question is: does he attempt a claim even though he clearly did not secure the bike as per policy or should he cancel the policy and get as much a refund as possible? I know this is limited to 25%.
