Buying a car on PCP.

I’ve only ever bought cars outright.
What happens when you buy a car on PCP?
I understand that there is a ballon payment if you want to keep the car, but what happens if you don’t want to keep it? What then?

If you don’t want to keep it you basically hand it back. What they ideally want you to do is take another one with them instead. If you hand it back and have met the agreed criteria on mileage and care, you give them nothing more - basically just hand the keys back.
