Swimming lessons provider not collecting direct debit

I was notified by my child's swimming lesson provider that they haven't collected the direct debit for lessons for several months. I must admit that I haven't been checking my statement to check they go out, just saw that it was on my direct debit list so assumed it was being collected. I've checked with my bank and the mandate is still active on my account so there must have been an administrative on the service provider's side.

I can't get hold of them by phone until Monday but can anyone clarify if I will be expected to make the back payment straight away even though it was their error? I could do without it right before Christmas.

Sorry, that should say there must have been an administrative error on the service provider's side.

Expected or not, if you can’t afford a big lump sum to catch up I would complain to them if they expect that. Ask them to come to some agreeable arrangement like paying double for x months to catch up.
