Sainsburys - no longer doing vouchers in store?

Anyone know anything about this?

I used to get vouchers every time I shopped in store. Haven’t had any for the last three or four shops.

Am I missing a trick? I used to get loads of nectar this way :(

I’ve had some very recently but don’t always get them. I think it might be pot luck whether you do or not.

AlwaysLatte · 26/10/2022 23:54

I got some a week or so ago (I do my mums shopping there). I must admit, I wish they were just texted via app or something. So much paper and time everyone around the checkout has to wait for them all to spew out!

RandomCatGenerator · 26/10/2022 23:56

I wonder if the machines just run out of paper or ink sometimes. How can I’d just be random?!

I've noticed if I don't shop at Sainsbury's for a few weeks the next time I shop I get vouchers, £7.50 off a £50 shop last week.

nannynick · 27/10/2022 06:13

I have noticed that I don't get them often these days. Sometimes I get a advert for product prices but no discount voucher.

The app has a bug... I get a Nectar voucher with a barcode which does not scan at the till (self scan or Smart Shop). Right pain. Can it not be applied automatically when using SmartShop?
Any Sainsburys staff know a solution to that other than manual entry by a staff member?

Dougieowner · 27/10/2022 06:15

I was shopping there last night and got loads (both the cashier and me wondered when the machine would stop printing!).

Because the systems have algorithms to decide when vouchers are given. Maybe not random in the true scientific definition, more like targeted

That's how it works

If you download the sainsburys app there are offers on there for extra points when you buy items which are usually ones you buy.

Fajeeta · 27/10/2022 06:21

Ah no its the Nectar app sorry.

Whatthetrolley · 27/10/2022 20:41

The nectar app and the smart shop app are linked so I use my phone to scn and get hundreds of extra points on things I would have bought anyway. They also have nectar prices, so if you use your phone to scan as you shop there are 10 items based on what you have bought previously that are discounted. If I do get a voucher it's either to do with Tu, petrol or buying an insurance!

RandomCatGenerator · 27/10/2022 23:19

Sorry @Whatthetrolley run that past me again?

@RandomCatGenerator Sainsburys have a smart shop app, works the same as the Tesco and Asda scanners but you use your phone instead. Linked to this is the nectar app, where each week they send you 20-30 bonus points offers on things that you have bought previously. Separate to this, they have nectar prices that give you 10 items at a reduced price.

This week I have had 80 bonus points on grapes and 40 bonus points for 4 pints of milk. In addition to this, the nectar prices have also charged me £1.50 for the grapes, where they are £2 in the shop. I believe these offers only work if you use the smart shop app or online.

It updates quickly too. On Wednesday I bought pilgrims choice cheese for £2.75, now nectar prices are offering me it at £2.20, unlimited purchases for the next 7 days.

To pay you just scan a QR code at the till, it downloads, pay as normal and by the time I've left the shop I've had a notification saying my points have been added.

They also offer random bonus points after shopping sometimes and currently doing a Christmas offer that I've had about 350 points for but not sure how it works!!

Whatthetrolley · 28/10/2022 09:49

Offers on the app. You can see I spent £12 and got 240 extra points one shop

Last few times we've been in we got an 1800 nectar point bonus (£9) if you spend £60. Thought that was quite a good deal. Got that yesterday evening with a load of other vouchers.

Whatthetrolley · 28/10/2022 09:59

I've spent £107 this month there including petrol and some Christmas presents, so probably only about £60 on food and have had received 975 points in total for the month, nearly £10

Whatthetrolley · 28/10/2022 09:59

I meant £5 🤦‍♀️

The offers work if you do scan-as-you-shop using one of the store devices too! As long as they're loaded onto your nectar card in the app.

BinBandit · 28/10/2022 12:48

Like all the supermarkets, the more you shop there the fewer vouchers such as £5 of £40 etc you get. I shop there virtually every week so I don't get any. Lately vouchers issued at the till in shop are usually for petrol or for buying insurance.

I use the smart shop with the devices in store. You usually have My Nectar prices as PP says, 10 items with a discount price and multi purchase possible and then Nectar points offers on other things, can be as much as 120 extra points on some but also could be just 10. You MUST remember to add these to your saved offers on the app otherwise you don't get them. That really annoys me.

What i have noticed is that I could often get around 1000 points each week using those offers, the amount available even if I buy all the things listed this week I could only get 850 total. I never used to buy all the things to get 1000 or more. So I think even those offers are less.

Might have to go elsewhere for a few weeks to get them trying to entice me back I think.

RandomCatGenerator · 28/10/2022 23:41

Oh well balls to this then, I’ll go to Ocado for a while until they deem me important enough to woo back with vouchers!
