Advice regarding Part Time work search and Budgeting

Hi All,

I am Kathy, a single mum to a 1 and a half year old boy, and I am very glad to have found this community! Typically the late hours are when I can finally catch a break and be myself for a while before I pass out but so far from my reading I am impressed by how supportive this community is!

Before going on and on though I should apologise if this is the wrong forum section but I thought it might be appropriate to seek help here with regards to jobs and budgeting. Currently, I am struggling a little bit to make ends meet with the cost of living crisis making it worse. I have applied to a few forms of financial over the past 2 weeks, however, I am keen to make the most of my time to try and apply to part time jobs and help my situation.

My question for fellow forum users here, have any of you recently (or perhaps not-so-recently) looked for a part time job (or even full time) job successfully? Perhaps after having left the workforce for sometime? I would appreciate if people can guide me or give advice to what worked for them. I know a few people in a similar situation to mine who have gone from job to job, with their longest lasting about ~5 months.

I am not sure if I would be asking for too much but maybe if I were to juggle between part time work and caring it wouldn't be too bad to earn some extra in come potentially(hopefully I can also send my toddler to day care soon too). Hopefully this might also mean I can spend sometime (wishful thinking here) doing some side hobbies.

I also sometimes struggle with expenses and budgeting. From my limited research on this website I've seen people mention 'YNAB' and Money Dashboard but there seems to be a mix of opinions on both. What one would you prefer? Hopefully it would help out with what I would like to think is my biggest expense at the moment that is my child but I suppose others might consider essentials (e.g. food/bills) to be a much bigger expense.

Again I do apologise if this is the wrong forum but I appreciate any advice given.

Thanks! :)

If you search through the forum topics, there is a back to work section which will hopefully help you on that side of things. I can't be much help on the other stuff. Good luck, hopefully you'll get plenty of advice.

hey

preparing to return to work after maternity leave my son will be 9 months. Feeling really anxious about leaving him. I need to formally request part time hours in next few weeks for consideration. Any advice on best hours and how to maximise my hours but also get quality time to raise my son. Currently thinking 3 days a week = 26 hours but should I do long days or smaller hours every day?

any advice would be hugely appreciated
