Anyone done a recent Nationwide mortgage application

I have an appointment next week. I have submitted most of the documentation but they are asking for life insurance and existing home insurance schedule. Any idea why they would need this? I am named on my exs home insurance policy but only because he made me do all the organising and talking. My name will be coming off. I have a life insurance policy still in force from an old property but it wouldn't cover all of this mortgage. Will I need new life insurance? I had a nationwide mortgage a few years ago and was never asked for any of this.

Hello, mortgage broker here. I have never seen Nationwide ask us for insurance policies for our clients. I suspect they have asked for this for marketing purposes in the hope of selling you insurance. I wouldn't worry too much about giving it to them, although insurance is strongly advised it's certainly not compulsory to obtain a residential mortgage. Good luck!

That's what I suspected but the way it is worded is that it will speed up my mortgage application.
