Hi,
We pay for BG every 3 months. I submit meter readings online and they send the bill. In this case - how we'll get these £400??? I can't find any information as they talking only about DD or prepaid/smart meters. Still no information on my online account or email.
Thank you

It gets paid into your account rather than knocked off the bill so presumably you’ll have to provide your bank details to them. Either that or you might get a cheque I guess

dementedpixie · 25/09/2022 08:13

British Gas website says this:

^If you pay by quarterly cash or cheque
Your discount will be applied to your account balance each month^.

dementedpixie · 25/09/2022 08:14

So basically the £66 a month will be deducted from your bill and then you will get charged the remaining amount when the bill is produced quarterly

This is incorrect. No one is getting this £400 paid into their bank account. It will be deducted from your energy bill/energy account.

I really wish people would refrain from flinging out totally wrong answers when they clearly have no understanding of the subject.

Actually some energy providers are paying the money back to the customers bank account and one of them is British Gas!

If you pay by Direct Debit
We'll send the money straight to your bank each month – like a refund – once your Direct Debit has gone through. If your monthly Direct Debit payment is lower than the monthly discount value, the remaining balance will be applied to your energy account.

Thank you, that's why I was confused because I saw some threads here that customers will be paid directly to bank account too.

I was told by my provider that I pay my bill as usual ( DD on 1st of month) and then get 67£ paid into my bank account about 4 days later for 6 months….I have a smart metre but don’t think that makes a difference

dementedpixie · 25/09/2022 08:20

www.britishgas.co.uk/energy/help-if-youre-struggling-to-pay/government-support.html#receive-discount

If you pay by DD then british gas are refunding to your bank account. If you pay by cash/cheque then its deducted from your bill

Except you are wrong….I’m British Gas and will be getting 400£ paid into my account ( 67£ a month)

Thank you, I definitely won't get it to my account as I pay the bill online by card or at pay point by cash. So I think I'll receive some vouchers or automated discount on my bill online.

@FruitPastilleNut you can't say people are incorrect when different suppliers are applying the discount in different ways. You are the one giving the incorrect information

I really wish people wouldn’t be so arsey and quick to jump on others who are trying to help when they themselves are wrong. As others have confirmed, BG are paying directly into accounts.

PinkButtercups · 25/09/2022 08:36

We're with SSE.

We pay DD every month and bills are taken every 3 months.

They've stated if we pay by DD then then £66 will be paid for October and November then £67 there after which goes straight onto DP's debit card after the DD has been taken and will take 4/5 days after DD is taken to receive the £66/£67.

No you're incorrect so maybe do some research.

Oh look, straight off my SSE Electricity Bill letter 🙄

I'd rather BG just put an extra £67 onto my account because I'm just going to have to return the money to them via an extra payment. It's a mistake to effectively lower peoples direct debits because we are all likely to run up bigger bills once winter properly kicks in.

Important to remember that no one should be asking for your bank account details, or to enter account details anywhere.
If any one asks you for this you are about to be scammed.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/09/2022 04:48

I would have thought that for a quarterly bill you'd get £67 pm knocked off from October, so £200 off each of your next 2 bills if they match calendar quarters or slightly different if your bills are, for example, September to November, December to February and March to May, it might be £134, £200 and £66 off those bills but it should all work out the same in the end.
