Universal Credit, after-school club isn’t registered

Does anyone have experience of this?
Will UC pay towards my childcare if it isn’t registered? It’s wraparound care which is provided within the school, the school is registered but the wraparound technically isn’t as it is private.

I paid them £603 for September and now I’m worried I won’t get re-imbursed. Also don’t want to move DD as she is happy there.

UC states they must be OFSTED registered in order to claim Child care costs.
It's a private company but working out of school grounds I am surprised they are not registered but if they are not then it looks like you cannot claim UC ccc.

MissMaple82 · 03/09/2022 13:02

You must he confused, they absolutely will be registered. Ask the school for the ofsted number

TwilightSkies · 03/09/2022 13:04

The owner texted me saying the After-school isn’t registered, as it is private. But she gave me the schools registration number and suggested I try using it.

I would contact Ofsted.. private still need to be registered

CrossStichQueen · 03/09/2022 13:06

But she gave me the schools registration number and suggested I try using it.

Wouldn't that be deception?

I assume its like the after school care my DC attended 10 years ago. They rented a space from the school ( the old nursery out building) but we're nothing to do with the school so had their own OFSTED registration.

VioletladyGrantham · 03/09/2022 13:08

As l understand it, so long as the care provided is less than two hours a day, so a homework club for example, no registration with Ofsted is required.

Connie2468 · 03/09/2022 13:10

They don't have to register with Ofsted if they operate for less than 2 hours a day, or only take children over 8.

Justanotherwinter · 03/09/2022 13:11

£603 a month for wrap around care??

TwilightSkies · 03/09/2022 14:03

Yes £603! An hour in the morning and 3-4 hours in the afternoon.

I don’t understand how they are operating but aren’t registered.
They are well advertised and very popular. Surely if they had to be registered, they would be….

The after school club does not have to be registered with ofsted.

Ramdogs · 03/09/2022 14:08

You'd need to check if UC can make any exceptions to the ofsted requirement for wraparound care. I know with nursery and the like they absolutely must be ofsted registered in order to claim back. BUT it is common place for wraparound care operating out of a school to not be registered so I wonder if an exception can be made for that.

@Ramdogs Are you sure? Sorry I’ve been researching for the past hour and can’t see anything that says this. I so
want it to be true!! Lol

TwilightSkies · 03/09/2022 14:49

No. It’s from 7.30am until 6pm

If they operate longer than 2 hours and they are taking Reception age children then they either come under the school's registration or they are operating illegally.

Have you tried looking them up on the Ofsted website?

There are different rules for school based provision.

Thank you. They must be operating under the schools registration.
I will just keep my fingers crossed that UC will accept that.
