Yorkshire Building Society mortgage

The fixed term on our mortgage is coming to an end and we're considering changing to a different provider so we can get an offset mortgage. I just phoned YBS for some basic info and the bloke on the phone seemed to have very little idea what he was talking about but wouldn't put me through to someone with more experience. He kept wanting me to tell him what questions I had so he could ask the relevant person and then tell me the answers - except he didn't really seem to understand anything. I was extremely disappointed with the whole phone call and am worried that this bodes badly.

Does anyone else have a mortgage with YBS? What are your experiences?

We've had an offset mortgage with them for a long time. Started with our first house and when we moved, couldn't find anything to beat it and its always worked well for us.
The guy you spoke to sounds rather unhelpful though!

Thanks for responding! We've decided to go ahead with the application. Financially speaking, going with an offset mortgage is a no brainer for us. It's just that our existing mortgage provider (First Direct) have been brilliant. Their customer service is excellent and it's really easy to get someone knowledgeable on the phone (open 7 days a week until 8pm). I just hope things go smoothly with YBS!
