Car accident a year ago- what to do now?

Hello,

wonder if anyone has any advice for me

back august last year (four months after passing my test - didn’t do my test till mid-twenties) I had my baby in the car and went to reverse out of a parking space. All mirrors checked, and reversed. A car was there. Even when I hit I looked in my mirrors and saw nothing. Getting out I hit a new golf, an elderly woman gets out shouting and swearing. My daughter is crying, I am freaked.
some passer by took down our information as the woman was shouting and calling me every name under the sun.

all my information given but my registration - I forgot. I couldn’t get pictures as she instantly drove away and parked round the corner - got pictures of her car after but not in position.

the calls started; threatening me with ‘hit and run’ saying I could of killed someone; I’m ignorant I’m this im that. It was awful.

I took 3 weeks of work, I didn’t drive. Took months to begin driving to the shops. Then nothing. At Christmas I received a letter from solicitors saying I am being taken to court for negligence and I don’t care for anyone but myself. My insurance company paid the claim quickly and closed it down.

nothing was heard again, I was assured it was over. Now we’ve sold the car, closed the insurance, moved four hours away and a letter has turned up being redirected and 3 weeks late. ‘The damage has been concluded at £1500 I have 7 days to pay in full or will be taken to court’ what the???? My insurance paid over £500 back in December. How does it take nearly a year to decide the car damaged amount? Why am I being given the bank details to make payment?

is any of this normal? I’m freaked. I hardly drive anymore unless I need to. She won’t leave me alone? Why did we pay out at Christmas to avoid court as I couldn’t sleep if that wasn’t the bill?

has anyone had something like this? Will my insurance company help me when I no longer have the car or insurance with them?

thanks

Hi, this sounds awfully stressful. Ring the company that you were insured with at the time of the accident and they should be able to advise you how to proceed and will hopefully take over communications with whoever has sent you the letter.

Go straight back to your insurance company and only deal through them, if they’ve closed the case and paid out that should’ve been the end of it.

What happened with the letter from the solicitors in Dec? Was that dealt with by your car insurance company?

Refer this straight to the insurance company.
It sounds like they already paid for the damage and closed the case .
