Thoughts on halifax to get a mortgage with ?

Hello !
my partner has recently tried getting a mortgage with HSBC he got right to the underwriting stage and was declined. They said they would accept his mortgage offer if he did higher payments each month ! Which I think is really stupid as this would not be affordable, yet they turned down suitable payments.
someone suggested Halifax. I was wondering for others options on Halifax as a bank ?
many thanks.

We used a broker so that they could search a load of mortgage companies in one go, they managed to get us the mortgage that we needed where as when we had tried going to the bank directly it failed the affordability.
We used L&C, this is my referral code if you want to try them referme.to/Hjvh4M
Funnily enough the deal they got us ended up being with Halifax

We used a broker as well and the deal he got us was through Halifax. Also a slightly unusual situation as a large part of my income is commission based and DP is self employed and had a significant loss of income during covid but we got a very good deal through Halifax.

I will say that this is probably area dependent but the valuer they used was extremely thorough. I was quite nervous about it as we’d offered £40k over the asking price and had heard a lot of banks were still doing desktop valuations but he spent 4 hours at the house we bought and valued it at the price we’d offered.

We were originally with L&C as well but our broker just randomly stopped returning my calls once we’d had our offer accepted so we went with a smaller broker instead who also didn’t charge us anything. It was this company if it’s useful www.everystepfinancial.co.uk/

Halifax are one of the easiest lenders to get a mortgage from

Go through a broker. You've already been declined once which means will count against you, don't risk it.

Used a broker and went with Halifax. Very easy to deal with, they use plain English and were very fast turnaround. - literally a day or two at most. Was earlier this year.

Been with Halifax for 22 years and they have always been brilliant. They helped us out with further lending when we were struggling and also allowed us to extend the term of the mortgage a well.
