Car tax arrears and penalty

Just got a letter saying I haven’t paid car tax and have a fine and penalty! I didn’t realise just tried to tax and it will only allow me to pay 6 months or a year! I am really short on cash and wondering if I pay penalty and fine will it allow me to pay monthly? Not sure whether to pay the penalty and arrears at a later date and just get 6 months now

I don’t think you can pay monthly.

I pay my car tax monthly by DD.

You should be able to set up a direct debit, but you may well need to clear the debt first.

you can only buy 12months with my bmw for £30

My car only let's me pay for the year but it is one payment of £30. All other cars have given me the option of monthly, 6 monthly or yearly so I think it depends on the value.
