It depends on your local council. Have they made any payments yet?

BMWqueen · 25/05/2022 18:32

Yes my sister lives down street and she’s had hers as she’s always had debt set up before all this :-/ feel left out and I’m skint x

You are probably already being processed as a non direct debit customer. Seems to be various schemes around councils from online forms to fill in to letters being sent asking for details and some are now issuing £150 Post Office Vouchers you can go and exchange at post office. I imagine setting up a Direct Debit now could be counter productive if you have to chase

NoWordForFluffy · 25/05/2022 18:36

It was well-publicised that you needed a DD set up to get the payment, or you'd have to wait longer for it.

I've had to wait longer for mine as the bill is in joint names, but the account is in my name only, so it didn't tally.

Luckily I'm not desperate for mine.

Oblomov22 · 25/05/2022 18:39

Surrey, got ours 16th May. I'm thinking that must be early then.

NotYourOscarSpeech · 25/05/2022 18:40

I don’t pay by DD, I filled out a form on my council website towards the end of April and got an email today confirming payment has been made to my bank account and to expect it in the next 3-5 days.

It wasn’t exactly “publicised” although I think there was a leaflet about it with my 2022/23 bill - I only clicked through to the form because someone helpfully linked it on my local Facebook group.

IanOsenfrote · 25/05/2022 18:44

If you don't pay by direct debit and the council do not have your bank details, the rebate is applied to your council tax bill automatically.

I think that is how it should be done anyway. It's a scammers charter for having people ring up and ask for your bank details to give you your rebate.

Roselilly36 · 25/05/2022 18:45

I have had mine too, about a week ago.

BattenburgDonkey · 25/05/2022 18:47

You need to check with your local council. With mine everyone who didn’t set up a direct debit by March had to do an online application for it instead.

girlmom21 · 25/05/2022 19:06

I'd expect you won't have to wait longer than 6 weeks max

Knackeredmommy · 25/05/2022 19:21

A form went up on my Borough's site for non DD accounts on Monday. Filled it in online and got confirmation today that I'll receive it into my bank acc in 3 weeks time.

Billandben444 · 25/05/2022 21:37

Well I'm DD and haven't had it yet. Our council keeps saying 'within a week' but lots of us are still waiting. Presumably non-DD will have to wait even later?

HSKAT · 25/05/2022 21:39

In our area if you don't pay by DD you had to fill a form in by a certain time

DuggeeHugPlease · 25/05/2022 21:40

We don't pay DD and had a form in the post this week to apply online for the rebate. There's a deadline and if we don't do it the money will be automatically added to our account and our bill adjusted down.

TigerRag · 26/05/2022 19:08

I don't pay by DD and had to apply

Lilly11a · 27/05/2022 07:37

I pay by DD and not had it yet . I emailed the council and they can't give any timescale to when it will be processed due to the volume.

It's different in every council.

LouiseBelchersPinkBunnyEars · 30/05/2022 14:10

I don't pay by dd. Our council paid dd customers last week. The website says they will be contacting those who don't pay by dd soon. No timeline as of yet

Just to update I got it through this morning

skyeisthelimit · 30/05/2022 15:24

Only your local council could advise you accurately on this. Have you looked on their website?

Ours announced a deadline to get signed up by DD and anyone not signed up by then would be sent a form to complete.

Pixiedust1234 · 30/05/2022 15:24

I pay monthly but not by direct debit. I've had a letter from the council this week asking if I want it sent directly to my bank account (and supply them the details) or if I want my bill reduced.

Kind of crazy setting up a dd right now, you should have done that at the beginning. You weren't on the dd list so council put you on the non dd list. Now you don't fit the criteria for the non dd list...

dadadeedadada · 30/05/2022 15:29

I pay over the phone (Salford council) I've just had a letter with a unique code so I can claim it back through their website so maybe you'll get one soon. My mum pays on direct debit and got hers a few weeks ago.

LIZS · 30/05/2022 15:29

You may already be too late for the automatic payment. I doubt they will review them. Our council paid all those with dd last week and will write to remainder of those eligible by mid June.

dotdotdotdash · 30/05/2022 15:31

Look on your council website. My own borough is paying in batches, by postcode, and has a process for those who do not pay by direct debit.

Maverickess · 30/05/2022 15:35

I don't pay by DD either and had a letter last week giving me a code to go online and submit my bank details and they'll pay it within 3 weeks, or if I don't they'll credit my council tax account with it.
I think I'm just going to let it get credited to my council tax account, I have a bit of debt with them and so it'll get that down a bit more and I'm just about managing with the increases in prices right now.
I know that's not an option for some people though who need it and that would have been me a few years ago.
Hopefully you'll get a letter soon from your council or they'll use your bank details from your new DD to pay it to you.

I was hopping as the bank account is in joint names, the council tax is in joint names and they wrote to my husband because they are trying to make the payment just to him which they can't do because I'm on the bank account. Nice to see the sexism is alive and well!!
