Will overpaid income tax be automatically refunded?

I am returning to study in Sept so will have only worked Apr-Jul this year and won’t meet the income tax threshold I think, does anyone know: will it be refunded next year, or do I need to chase it up?

They calculate it automatically once the tax year ends and refund you. I've got mine set up on the Gov personal tax account to pay direct into my bank account, if you haven't set that up you get a cheque. They can take a while to sort it though (it says online it will be before September which I think is a cheek considering the tax year ends in April!)

Make sure they pay you. My tax refund said zero but I knew this wasn't right. They owed me 2.5k

Did you get it? I've been overpaying tax for over ten years due to working for several companies, fortunately I've never had a problem being repaid.

Hi @Justjoinedforthis I think you can apply mid year if your circumstances change. I just tried google for you and there's a series of questions on gov.uk you need to follow.
