How to pay back Tax Credits

I’ve just ended my historic tax credit claim in my name after 16 years as my DD is 18. I’ve applied for UC in her name, which she is now receiving.

The final statement for my Tax Credit account has come through and I’ve been overpaid last year £123, and had 1 payment I shouldn’t have had this year for £141.

How do I pay it back ? I can only see online answers suggesting the UC will be reduced but it’s obviously in a different name. Please help I hate owing money !

Either wait until they send you a letter about it, or ring them and arrange to pay it back.

When tax credits started they overpaid me alot, I mean by the time I got them to stop it was a 4 figure sum. When I asked about repaying it then said put it in a savings account, get the interest and wait till we ask for it.

Madness but it might have improved.

It was quite a while, basically I was entitled to about £10 a week and they just stopped the payments until it was repaid so in fact it took years. I worked with a single mum who was being underpaid by a similar amount, in the end I asked them if they'd like me to just give her the money as she really needed it. They didn't like that idea.
