Threat of redundancy whilst on mat leave

Help-my friend has a 6 week old baby and is currrently on mat leave. Her boss has contacted her to say that they are making 3 redundancies in the department and everyone is to be interviewed for the remaining jobs. Can they do this while she is on mat leave? Does she have to attend ?

They can't make her compete for a job when she is on mat leave. If there is a job which is suitable for her, they must offer it to her in preference to other members of staff.

Her boss probably doesn't know this, lots don't. I'll find you a link.

aw thanks. She is coming to mine tomorrow so said I would do a bit of digging. A 6 week old baby is stressful enough without all this hoo ha.
