How to find a tax advisor

I need to find a tax advisor for the first time in my life relating to CGT on property - I had to grant a leasehold extension.

Nobody I know uses a tax advisor - is there a better way to find one than just googling for one nearby?

You need a Chartered Accountant that specialises in tax and CGT. Look up local accountants practices and see if there is a specialist you like the sound of.

The CIOT (chartered institute of taxation) website will have a list of registered tax advisors :)

Can the solicitor who dealt with the leasehold extension not recommend one? Most solicitors have a few "trusted" local accountants they call upon to do their tax work.

Failing that, all the major accountancy and tax bodies have membership directories on their websites.

With it being a purely tax matter, I'd suggest the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).
