Go into your branch and ask face to face for the bank charges back. They may go through your account and suggest ways of improving things. They are more reluctant to refund charges atm due to all the court cases. But yes they can and still do stitch people up this way.

Sorry to hijack but does this include authorised overdraft interest?
I guess they can still charge for that, can't they?

Of course overdrafts are going to be subject to interest. IMO that is fair, it's the bank charges you have to be beware of.

I work in customer relations for a bank (no mentioning names ) the only charge that would cause further chgs would be account maintainance/monthly unauthorised overdraft fees/debit interest as you have to get at least 14 days (normally one months) notice of these fees therefore should have/leave sufficient funds in your account to cover these. They should not charge you an additional fee if a charge has taken you over your overdraft (unless further items have debited ie debit card / direct debit). Although banks are reluctant to refund charges at the mo they will carry out a reasonability check and should help put you back in a position which you can then begin to manage your account.

Sorry I didn't mean to sound greedy, I agree but I've been wondering what all the bank charges thing was for a while, and wanted to be sure it was what I thought and not about everyone claiming back all their interest!!
Thanks for clarifying.
