When best to claim universal credit

My circumstances are changing and I will have to make the switch over from tax credits to universal, I will be going from working to being on carers

I currently work in a school and I will be finishing at the end of term (July) but have been told I will still get paid in august as I have worked the full year and paid a yearly salary

I get paid on last working day of the month, so will I continue on tax credit then apply for universal at the beginning of September?

Will you definitely be better off on UC ? If so then you apply after your last normal pay day, give it a couple of days afterwards before applying. Tax credits will stop as soon as you apply for Uc so you may want to time that to just after a tax credits payment.

Hi yes definitely better off on universal so even though term finishes mid July, as I get paid end of aug I will just stay on tax credits until then

It depends if you are going to be better off now on UC? Do you currently get working tax credits ? I think you would get a four week run on of those after you stop work so maybe wait until that ends. It's hard to advise really.
