I have an ongoing account dispute with EON. The energy ombudsmen are investigating in the meantime eon have slapped a default notice ony credit file! 489 points vanished. They said they thought the investigation had finished so this was acceptable. Now they've admitted they've made a error but say they can't fix it! So frustrated

Data Protection legislation?

Sorry, haven't time to link the correct bits, but on the Information Commissioner's Office website there are links to the duties of Data Protection Officers, which includes a legal duty to try to ensure information held about a person is correct.

The company holding the credit file may be in breach for failing to update the information once they've been informed of Eon's error.

There may also be more recent Data Protection requirements re "machine-made decisions". I'm not up-to-date about this – obviously it's a growth area.
