Second job as main job

Asking for a friend, she is currently on a small contract (7 hours) in a supermarket.

She has secured another job WFH of around anything between 16-48 hours a week. (The job allows her to book her own hours in for the weeks ahead around commitments).

However, as the supermarket job is permanent and this other job is “temporary but ongoing” she would like to remain in the supermarket as well. Obviously she will have no P45 to give to her new employer so what does she need to do about being taxed?

Thanks In advance for any help.

There used to be a P46 form for these situations. Now the employer should use the 'New starter checklist'. That will make sure HMRC have all the relevant information.

I've had a couple of part time jobs at the same time and it won't be an issue. All I did was make each employer aware and then spoke to HMRC myself to alert them. I would definitely call HMRC because they basically let me 'split' my personal allowance between the two roles so I wasn't over-taxed every month.

Yes, she can split her tax allowance, I work for several companies and I have to do so.

Many thanks all for the advice .

Yes , just check the relevant box on the new starter HMRC form. Tax can be reclaimed at the end of the year/contract. - if she does over pay.
