Gas/electric supplier in rented flat

I rent my flat and both the gas and the electric are on top-up meters. Can I change supplier or am I stuck with what I presume the landlord chose?
Has anyone done this and how did you go about it?

You can change to whichever supplier you want without asking the landlord. We've been in our rented house for 4 years and the first thing I did was go onto the Moneysavingexpert.com Cheap Energy Club and change supplier and have changed twice since as I check what is the best deal for us.

As you are on a meter you may have to ask the landlord if you want to have it taken out but I'm not 100% on that.

You pay the bill, you choose the supplier.
