EX-P has just petitioned for bankruptcy - what happens next?

Ex-p paid his bankruptcy fee this morning, signed his afidavit (sp??), had a clerk look through his forms and has seen the judge. He goes in for his 'order' at 12.30. Does anyone know what this means or have any idea what happens next?

I know he has to see the official receiver who will review any assets. How long will it likely be before he is actually declared bankrupt and will stop being threatened by his creditors?

TIA

He will see the receiver and they will note any assests and that's it basically. He should be declared bankrupt when he sees the offical receiver.

Thanks PM. Is that what is happening now then? He's back in for his 'order'. Or will he make an appointment to see the official receiver at a later date?

It stops immediately. He can show them the notice and they will bugger off and stop bugging him.

yes what previous poster said, he should bring a little receipt thingy home with him.

Its over...breathe ...

I was reading recently that it is only one year now and then he should be able to get a cash account with a bank [Abbey National are good] and start building his rating up again.

Oh God, I really hope he calls soon and tells me about the receipt thing.

We're separated but I've been trying to support him through this as the debts were all from years ago when we were together. It's been a totally shit time for all of us.

Thanks for answering both of you.

You are welcome. I hope it all sorted out and good for you for supporting him - it's never easy. I had to be there for my ex-dh (who I can't stand) and it drove me nuts but I was glad I did it (later, much later).
