Tax Credits stopping payments

I normally get my child tax credits manually by post every four weeks. Without fail they arrive on saturday morning ready to cash on the tuesday.

Anyway the next one is due next tuesday and so it should have arrived this morning. It didn't. I phoned them and he said quite casually "oh, it does say that it's due on the 6th but it hasn't gone through for some reason".

Only explanation is that I have put in another claim recently on the advice of a supervisor who told me this wouldn't effect my current payments. The idea was that the old "messed up" claim would cease to exist once the new one went through properly...however what's happened is they have stopped the old claim before the new award has been issued.

This could mean I get no more money from them until after christmas. What can I do about this? I feel like crying, I have no presents for the kids or anything and no money to get them with. The bloke suggested I might be able to get an emergency payment from the local office but this is no good...£90 to cover essentials is not going to get us through what was already a strained christmas.

Please help me.

Oh gosh, the only advice I can give is to ring every single day.

So sorry this is happening to you.

Go to your local tax office and explain. They will be able to sign the emergency cheque if nothing else. And I find it less frustrating when you can talk to a real person. They will probably get you to speak to ctc over the phone but will intervine explain etc.

Hope it's k otherwise let us know on chat and I'm sure your kids will get some pressises

xx
