I'm a bit out of date now but used to deal with this stuff a few yrs ago. At that time, you had to make a claim asap, but they wouldn't start paying hb for about 6 or maybe even 9 months AFTER you put your claim in.

They at that time only paid interest and only the first £100k.

As I say this may not be up to date so I'd contact CAB if I were you, also make an appt to talk to your lender & see what they can do to suspend/reduce your payts.

The job centre are no good for you, if you need Income Support you claim that thru' the Benefits Agency.

BTW, you claim Housing Benefit through your local council.

well i was at the job centre in my town as they are the ones who deal with IS here, there are not many people on benefits.
i think you are right about the limit being a 100k loan. But who can buy a house with that in the south east??
