Switching from legacy benefits to UC

I was hoping someone could help me please. I'm switching from legacy benefits (tax credits, housing benefit and council tax support) to universal credit. Do I need to ring tax credits and housing benefit and let them know I'm switching up UC or will the old benefits stop automatically.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi OP. As soon as you apply for UC the legacy benefits stop automatically. It take a few weeks for your new UC payment to come through so I got a small advance which I've been paying off all year. This is my first year of claiming. Hope that helps 😊

Great thank you for replying. Did you have to ring anyone from your old benefits to say your switching to UC?

No you do not need to call them. As soon as you apply for UC, the legacy ones cease straight away. You will get a letter from HMRC at some point outlining what you have paid and whether it's over or under. Somehow I was overpaid by £59 on legacy and it was deducted this month in a lump sum.
