People who have a monthly budget ...

How much do you allocate each month for clothes? If you’re comfortable sharing obviously. If it’s an amount for your family it would be helpful to know how many of you there are.

I went from spending almost all my (meagre) wages as a teen on clothes to never having any spare money for clothes. So I now feel like I don’t really know what’s a normal amount to spend on clothes and I constantly feel like I’m walking around a complete mess!

I currently budget £50 per month for clothes but my overwhelming feeling is that this isn’t enough. School uniform is separate. There are four of us but my OH almost never buys any clothes so really that’s just for me and the kids.

Clothes come under 'personal' stuff so I have £250, allocated to the children (2) and £500 to me. This would include anything additional so haircuts, toys, magazines, make up as well as clothes.

Zero. But we have £100 a month spare at the end of the month for ‘everything else’. So clothes, house items, extra food or going out, coffees, admission charges, cinema tickets, everything. So some months we might buy a couple of items of clothing and other months nothing.

Oh family of five btw.

I put aside £75 per month for 3 dc clothes, but that covers school/nursery uniform, school shoes, sandals and canvas shoes in the summer and a decent winter coat and wellies in winter and one school rucksack.

Home clothes I buy as and when they are needed. Usually once every 3 to 6 months per child. Ditto home shoes or trainers.

On myself I spend £150 every eight weeks on my hair and approx £250 per season on work clothes only if I need them.

Try and buy as much as I can second hand in charity shops.

I feel mine is maybe a little on the low side then!

I might up it to £100 and see how we go for a few months.

Thanks all :)

it comes under misc for us which is £100 for the two of us (that's haircuts, clothes and any sort of takeaways) , we only buy clothes when something is worn out or if we have a specific occasion needed for it.

Most of my clothes are second hand or in the sale.
