Leaving job and claiming UC

I’m thinking of handing my notice in with work - I’ve just come out of a relationship and for my mental health I need to relocate back to my hometown and stay with family until I can get back on my feet. There’s no way I can commute to my current job and no way to work remotely all the time so I have no choice but to resign. Will I be able to claim UC does anyone know whilst looking for a new job or will I count as having made myself intentionally unemployed?

It will depend whether they accept the reasons for leaving as valid. If you can't claim UC then you can claim new style JSA instead assuming you have paid enough NI contributions. If you aren't claiming any help with rent and don't have kids then it won't be much less than UC.

Not sure about your specific question but I suggest don't claim uc until day after your last pay (even if this is after you've already left) otherwise they will count this as income. Don't think this happens under new style jsa
