Car Accident Claim made against me

Hi, I am looking for some advice. I was in a minor car accident 2 years ago & I have just received a notice that the other driver is seeking a personal injury claim.. in the letter they have provided all the doctors notes etc. It was a minor accident, her car cost £100 to repair as stated in the letter. My car however was a writeoff, but that was due to the cost of repairing not being worth it on my very old car. I am unsure of what my next step to take it, as I was actually a named driver on my husbands insurance while driving the car, & no longer have this car & I'm no longer with this insurance company. Could anyone please advise?

Did the claim go through the insurance company at the time?

@RedHelenB

Did the claim go through the insurance company at the time?
This.

Was it officially deemed as one person's fault?

blacktop · 09/08/2020 19:28

What happened?

MadeForThis · 09/08/2020 20:13

If it was reported to your insurance company at the time you just contact them and pass on the new claim. As your car was written off I'm assuming this is what happened.

If you didn't contact your insurance company you could be in trouble.

Sounds like the other party have been contacted by those cold callers who ask if you have ever been involved in an accident.

It did go through the insurance company at the time.. one problem we cannot remember if that was our current or previous car insurance company, so will ring in the morning to find out. I did accept blame of the accident, it was at a roundabout, I did not give way to the car coming from my right, the sun had blinded my view. I was driving very slowly as just pulling off from the roundabout.. her car was not damaged that badly & her airbags were not deployed etc.

What do the doctors notes say? And are they recent or from 2 years ago? And if it went through insurance - why are they not dealing with your insurance co?

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 09/08/2020 22:54

Just send the whole lot off to the insurance co that dealt with the claim. They'll pay it and you can forget about it.

Yes, check which your insurance company was at the time of the incident, send it straight off to them and think no more of it.

Thankyou for the advice.
The doctors notes are from appointments over the last 2 years, the first being 2 months after the accident. I will contact insurance company today & hopefully they are able to deal with it.

You're insurance company that you had at the time will deal with it. This happened to me a few years ago, it really panicked me! My insurance company at the time of the accident dealt with it. It was fine.

If you can’t remember the insurance company check
Your bank statements at the time and whatever name pops up on the statement will be the name of the insurer.
