Hi was wondering if anyone knows how we go about this. Me and my partner have decided to live together and he's just been full custody of his 2 other children and stepchild through social work. I currently have 2 children....the youngest is with my partner. How do we claim together and will we make a joint claim for child benefit. He has still to make cb claim as his ex is still getting it. He works full time also. Could anyone help thanks in advance x

Go to the turn2us website. There is a calculator there. It will give you an idea of what you will get.

Are you already claiming UC ? if so you can add him to your claim. If you are currently claiming tax credits then you will need to make a new joint claim together. You would only get Uc for all 5 if born before April 2017. You do not have a joint claim for child benefit, that is in one persons name only so probably best for him to claim for his 3 and you claim for your 2.

Sorry this should say you would need to make a new joint Uc claim together, you cannot make an existing tax credits claim into a joint one.

Do I just do this online in my journal? I'm a little confused as I'm due my payment at the end of Month. Also he doesn't claim any benefits so will this affect it? Thanks for replying x

Yes you report the change in the home section of your journal. I think he then needs to make a UC claim himself and you join the claims together ( they will give you a linking code). I'm sorry I'm not sure how it will affect your payment that is due, perhaps best to ring them and see the best time to add him on.
