Universal Credit and new baby - Don't have the things needed

I put in a claim for UC when I started my mat leave. Baby is now here and I've let them know but they're asking for a discharge letter and pages from my childs red book but they have not been filled in by anyone and one of the midwives took my discharge letter for hospital records (have now been discharged from midwife care so can't go back). Can't get my health visitor to fill it out as they're not doing at home visits. What else can I do?

You'll just have to push for the Red book to be filled out. Can you drop it at Gp's surgery and ask them to fill out then pick up again or ask them to scan discharge letter and email back to you?

Ask UC firstly if any other evidence would do ie. birth certificate

Speak to the hospital, then leave it with them and get them to fill it in - it was their responsibility to do it in the first place. They didn’t fill mine in and I got them to do it - admittedly I was only 10 mins drive from the hospital and there was no Covid -19

Contact the ward and request a copy of the discharge letter. Or contact your GP-they may have been sent a copy of it.

But,I don't understand why a birth certificate won't do??

To the posters asking why the OP can't use a birth certificate, in many places birth registrations haven't been running due to coronavirus. Even where they've started up again, they're often working on a backlog and only offering appointments in date order.

In the absence of a Red Book / Discharge Letter... do you still have your MATB1? They may be able to use this?
