Hi everyone, I've just changed from tax credits as I'm leaving self employment to go to University. I applied for UC and have been offered an advance payment of £688 until 16th August when I will receive my first payment. I'm now worried sick, does this include the housing element too, which would leave me and my two children with just £75 a week after rent.
I know they offer 100% of your first payment as an advance.

Thanks so much xx

The advance payment should reflect roughly what the total of your UC elements would be before any deductions so £688 doesn't sound correct for your rent, standard and two child elements. I would query it. I'm not sure why you have swapped to UC because you are becoming a student, UC is a lot worse for students then tax credits as any maintenance loan is taken off UC ?

Your standard element would be £409.89 assuming you are over 25 and 2 child elements assuming one was born before April 2017 would be approx. £516 so it doesn't sound correct at all, that's even without the rent element. If private renting have you shown your tenancy agreement?

Hi thanks for your reply, I'm a council tenant and quickly realising I've made a big mistake switching with regards to being a student
