Not sure if any help to anyone but good to know..

Most Employers are paying Employees full pay to be off work due to 'Coronavirus' ..

Not all Empoyees can do this ie: small companies, businesses...

Ssp may not be paid and for people earning less than £116 weekly ie : working part time etc.

Many may have to claim 'Universal Credit'..Which has taken over from ESA, job seekers etc.

It takes around 5 weeks to receive the basic amount now can be paid in days and then longer if you are unable to work due to ill health to get enhanced payments.

Anyone who needs to claim Universal Credit during this time..

You can request an 'Advance payment'..

Paid into your Bank Account the same day or next day.

Starts from around £349 single person..

Not sure of amounts for Couples and those with Children..

But you have to pay it back at around £29 or £39 a month..

However all repayments will be stopped for 12 months maybe extended to 24 months.

However you can ask that they 'Defer' taking back the monies for 12 months.

This will now be done automatically by DWP..HMRC..

Any deductions taken out to repay Council Tax arrears, Tax Credit overpayments will cease to be taken off your benefit for 12 months.

£20 weekly will be added to anyone on legacy benefits..from April 2020 For 12 months.

Including.
Universal Credit
ESA..Job Seekers etc..

Hopefully of use to someone if you've worked all your life.

The DWP benefits are available to people who need help especially during this crisis..

If you are getting paid by your Employer..

Please pass info on to anyone you know that may need to claim benefits during this time !

This part of your post is really confusing, you say the £20 extra is for anyone on legacy benefits, then you start your list with UC. Which is not a legacy benefit because it's replacing those benefits. Also i thought the extra £20 a week was only for those on UC?

Sashawest50 · 08/05/2020 12:35

Sorry for the confusion. I was give the info which was put out before dwp had really sorted it..£20 weekly extra u.c. £20 weekly working tax credits and £20 weekly extra housing benefits..they are constantly changing rules to meet community needs

Dwp have changed the goalposts again. The £20 weekly will continue on U.C.but theyve decided t o commence taking payments owing back out of monies ..should have known too good to be true..yet those who are off work 12 weeks full pay are living it up at the seaside..nice

£20 a week does not apply to legacy benefits which is extremely unfair.

It is also subject to benefit cap. So many will never receive it, even if on the chosen benefits and some actually end up losing more because they received it.

Babyroobs · 29/05/2020 14:51

The £20 extra only applies to UC and Working tax credits. It was designed to help those previously working who were faced with a huge drop in income due to coronavirus. However on Uc there was no way of distinguishing between those previously working so everyone got an increase even those on long term benefits.
