Missed child of tax credits application

So I claim tax credits and working tax credits. Have 3 children and never put my 3rd on as was told there was a 2 child limit. I didnt realise I still had to put my 3rd child on.... I was discussing benefits with a friend and she said she has all hers on their even though you cant get any more for them.
I've just logged in and put his name in the system so I guess they will contact me for birth certificate etc but what happens now? Do I get fined?? I'm panicking as cant afford the hefty fines with all this going on. I had absolutely no idea as everywhere says you can only claim 2 children after a certain date!

No you won't get fined, don't worry.

How old is your youngest? If born before 6.4.2017 you can get tax credits for them. If born on or after that date, you can't.

You are supposed to tell them within a month, but as you were not defrauding tax credits for monetary gain the chances of a fine are extremely unlikely. I would not worry.

You don’t need to send a birth certificate.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/04/2020 11:11

The reason for adding the third child is because , when your oldest drops of the claim if you are still claiming you can then claim for the youngest.
You can still claim childcare for your third child.
You can still claim the disability element for your third child.

You can still get childcare help for a third child or if the child has a disability you can get the disabled child element.

em90792 · 04/04/2020 12:35

Oh wow! I've been paying childcare for over a year for all 3! Had absolutely no idea!!
Glad I wont be in trouble! I started to panic as saw online it says you can be fined!
Thanks for the help ladies!
