You guessed it, covid-19.

I was made redundant on March 11th, Offered a new job shortly after with a different firm, was supposed to start March 23rd. Its a removals company and my position is office based. I've had a call to say they've had to shut their office (whole building is closed) and work from home (plus a lot of house moves have cancelled obviously) so they can't take me on right now as training remotely is impossible - but would like to after this all blows over.

I've let the job centre know that I'm looking for another job and therefore should be able to claim job seekers allowance. Is that the right move in this unusual climate?

It would probably be UC you'd need to apply for. Also, if you're healthy, supermarkets are calling out for staff, so you could easily get FT work there temporarily to tide you over.

Definitely look into supermarkets and maybe health care.
Dh lost his job last week but started a new one today in a supermarket.
