New style ESA for an injury?

My partner had a motorcycle accident and injured his shoulder leaving him unable to work at the moment. Does anyone know if he’s likely to be able to claim new style employment and support allowance?

If he has exhausted any SSP due to him and has paid enough NI contributions over the past 2-3 tax years then yes he should be able to claim.

I forgot to mention he is self employed. So he hasn’t had any ssp

I'm in the same position - had emergency surgery 3 weeks ago, now can't work until I recover (probably 3 months minimum) - I don't have a sick note from GP (who will be able to get one of those at the moment!) but I do have a copy of my hospital discharge statement - anyone know if they will accept that? Also no SSP as self-employed
