Does anyone know about APD for under 16 year olds

I booked a flight for myself and 12 year old DC. It's an adult ticket (this airline does ou do child tickets up to 11 years old). It's one way from the UK to Europe. I asked for a refund of air passenger duty and got £13 back. All Google results say it should be £26.

does anyone know?

I think it is £13 per flight so that is correct.

If the child you have booked a flight for is under 15. Most package holidays charge adult cost for teens and same for low cost airlines where all fares are charged the same.

there is an air passenger duty (APD) for flights departing from the UK. It's only payable for passengers aged 16 and over.

Many airlines sell 'child' tickets only up to 11. so you have to get an adult ticket for a 12 or 13 year old. this is more expensive as APD is applied.

I just wrote to the airline with the ticket number and got the refund.

some airlines have a booking system where you are not charged APD for a 12 year old but if you cannot buy a child ticket as they only go up to 11, chances are, you are charged APD.
