Could someone look at my pension New Year's Resolution

I'm 52 and earn £62,500 pa. I pay a pittance into my pension because I'm a numpty but in 2020 I'm going to change that.

My plan is to pay £12,500 pa into my work's pension via salary sacrifice. This will take my salary down to £50k so I will avoid the 40% tax bracket and be able to claim Child Benefit. Is that right?

According to MSE calculator my net pay at the moment is £3,732 pm and on a salary of £50k it would be £3,128 so I'd be taking home £600 pm less. Does that sound right?

Thanks in anticipation.

Sounds right to me

Sounds right to me.

Check salary sacrifice is the best option for you though but the amount to pay in is perfect and would let you receive child benefit again.

If I were you I'd pay in £13,000 - just to be on the safe side! But that's me and my eccentricities Grin
