Packaged bank account complaint and debt relief order

Hi,
No idea If I am positing in the best place with this query. I recently complained to natwest about miselling of a packaged bank account. I received a letter today upholding the complaint. However saying that this had been paid into my bank account to pay off outstanding debts. However I have a debt relief order in place and natwest wrote to me several months ago closing my account (the one they have allegedly paid the money into). I have rang the complaints department who have said they will pass this onto the relevant person to investigate. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this or whether anyone in the know could tell me if this was right or not?

Thanks

I would post this on MoneySavingExpert, someone there might have good advice. My unprofessional opinion would be that they have identified that you have a valid complaint and are due a payout, but as you have existing debt with them it makes sense for the payment to go towards that. I am not saying that it is right but them paying you £££ (not sure how much) directly to then only receive smaller amounts back over many months doesn't sit right when you can simply get rid of this debt in one swoop.

Again, see if anyone else can give a more informed answer but maybe try the MSE forum.
