Universal Credit and rent/property

So I've recently split with H, he has moved out temporarily and I'm wanting to know my options. If I rent a flat can I get help via universal credits as I also own a home with a mortgage on? I've tried looking but I don't seem to find the answer. I thought someone may know about this already.

You can for a short while but I think after six months they would expect the house to be on the market or ex dh buying you out.

Not sure. But once it’s sold if the equity you get from selling the house is over £6k then this would stop you being entitled to uc.

Is there anyway you could afford to keep the house - might be better financially in the long run.

Found the answer www.entitledto.co.uk/help/Own-other-property basically if you moved out and rented you would have to get it sold within 26 weeks.

I think eventually I would be able to claim a good amount of the equity from any sale and use that to buy a house. So this wouldn't effect UC????

If you use the equity to purchase another property within a certain period of time then you could still claim UC but otherwise if you had over 16k sitting in your bank you would not be able to claim UC.
