When our 2nd was born last year I had a quick look at a table I had from Inland Revenue and it didn't appear that you get more tax credits for having 2 children. I phoned them last week to tell them about our latest addition (born May 2006) and I received a letter back today which mention a "baby element" for those under 12 months.
I just phoned to ask them about this and they only automatically back date any additional payments 3 months. I can make a claim though, which is what I will be doing.

My question is, though, does anyone know how much the "baby element is" - want to know how much money I've missed out on.

The baby element is £545 on top of the family element which was also £545 but may have gone up a bit.

Tax credits are based on household income and number/ ages of children, which is why you are supposed to let them know of changes straight away.

thanks evenhope.
The table i looked at though suggested that we wouldn't qualify for anymore money with second child, and there was no mention of the baby element, which was why I didn't rush to tell them.
