Pension transfer from LGPS to civil service?

I was in LGPS for 5 years then went into the private sector for a few years. I am about to join the civil service, would it make sense for me to transfer my LGPS pension into the civil service one? Can I transfer my private one into it? Who do I go to to ask these questions?!

It might be worth it but it might not - your pensions department should be able to advise. Generally they will request your permission to get a transfer value then will need your permission again to go ahead with the transfer so there's no harm in requesting the value but I'd clarify this first. You should also be able to transfer in private pensions but again worth checking what it "buys" you in the civil service pension.

I think on your email asking about your commitment over the next 2 months to get a starting date there is an email address for queries try and ask them for a pension contact. Or ask the local government scheme. You need to check the detail, the newer CSPS is not that brilliant.

Are they both career average schemes?
